Rhum Line Marine Inc. has operated
out of its present location in Brunner,
Ontario since 1995. Owner and operator Ken
Fowler has been in the marine industry
since 1984, building and repairing small
craft such as wood/canvas canoe restorations
and one-off specialty craft, like the east
coast salmon wherry built for the Marine
Biology Dept. of the University of Waterloo.
For several years prior to 1995 Ken worked under contract for various
clients at their facilities, doing both marine and industrial tooling.
ie: Contour
Yachts 30', 34', Hinterhoeler 33', H.T. Gozzard
41' trawler one-off, Canbar Industries (several tooling
projects built on site.)
1994 marked the need for our own manufacturing space with the acquisition
of Mars
Metal, the largest and most versatile keel manufacturer in
North America. As pattern maker for Mars we have built keel patterns
for many production boats as well as specialty one-off projects. The
largest single cast lead keel ever made and also the largest keel
pattern was completed December, 2000 for the 154' Bruce King Designed
Ketch Scheherazade
currently under construction at Hodgdon
Yachts in Maine, with a cast weight of 153,000 lbs! The pattern
for the previous Hodgdon project (106,000 lbs.) was also done by us.
The client list continues to grow. We are as of July 2001 completing
molds for the Fusion
15, a Steve Killing Design, a 15' one design sailing dinghy
of which we will be producing the initial part production. Previous
to this we completed the molds for Offshore Spars Standard
and Parkave booms for Swan 70' and 80's.
January, 2001 marked the completion of
the PDQ
42 hull molds: a 42' sail catamaran
with over 1700 sq. ft. of hull surface (that's
a lot of long boarding and polishing, just
ask our crew!). For completion in Jan. 2002
we have been contacted by P.D.Q. to rework
the 34' power cat hull and build new hull
molds.
Other notable projects: Contour 47'
deck plug including the centerboard, rudder
and beams (aka's) plugs. Contour Yachts
is a builder of 30', 34' and 47' folding
trimarans. In 1998 and 1999 we built the
hull mold for the C.C. 121 and hull
and deck molds for the Tartan
3700 respectively.
